From the Old World to New World

When I first took office in 2011, it was my plan to promote equality both internally and
externally.  Using Latin America Union's resources and army force, we were able to provide aid to
many countries throughout the world.  Because of my initiative, the L.A.U was recognized as being
a Global steward to the planet.  While I was excited and proud to be given this honor, it was
overshadowed by the gross inequalities that lay within Latin America.  As I stated in my address
to Latin America,
My plan to fix this problem was to assemble a team of human rights experts and have them evaluate the current social structure of Latin America.  Out of this examination, I hoped to find where these deeply-embedded inequalities lie, and move to fix them.

While the team of professionals was working on picking apart society, there was one issue of
inequality that I sought to fix.  For those of you that are unaware, currently in Mexico there is a
group of revolutionaries that declared war on Mexico in 1994 over the government's ignorance
towards the indigenous populations.  They call themselves the Zapatista movement and since 1994,
they have taken the Southern most state of Chiapas, and have been in a constant standoff with the
government.  Through covert operations, I was planning to provide the Zapatistas the resources
they needed to rise up against the government once more and have the rights of indigenous
farmers respected.  The team of professionals I assembled to find the roots of the social
inequalities throughout Latin America would also work with the Zapatistas providing lawyers and
funds to have their voices heard.  This plan would have eliminated much of the inequality I was seeking to eradicate, but for obvious political reasons, not a plan I could make known.

However, this all changed when we received the extraterrestrial communication from 55 Cancri.  My
decision to involve the Latin American Union in the Machine Accord was not an easy one.  I knew
that Latin America had limited funding, and places where that funding could be better spent.  But
I felt that taking up arms against someone we don't know was an even worse idea.  After speaking
to the head of science and of the the Military, we all agreed that building the machine was
better than not building it.  This decision wasn't a "lesser of two evils" sort of approach.  I wasn't supporting the building of the machine simply because I thought building our weaponry was a worse idea.  I
made the decision to fund the machine because I felt that it was time for the people of Earth to
come together and make something that could better humanity for everyone.

I also made the decision to build the machine because although Latin America may not have the funding to provide, we have a large, skilled workforce that would be more than willing to help build the machine.
This was something that we, as a planet, could easily accomplish.

When Japan and America also came out in support of building the machine, we quickly got to work.
Even though the machine was originally going to be built in Japan, we felt it safest to build the
machine in Latin America after facing hostilities from the E.U. Military.  Building the machine
in Latin America would prove to be beneficial to our struggling economy, as the increased number
of scientists and workers from America and Japan would spend the time that they weren't working
on the machine in our cities and towns.  We soon discovered that building the machine would also
benefit everyone.  As quickly as we began building the machine, we were making huge scientific
discoveries.  This machine contained answers to some of the most highly contemplated topics among
scientists, such as a self-sustaining power source, the ability to make shields, and the ability
to create wormholes.

It seemed that as quickly as the machine was first sent to us, our three months to build the
machine were coming to a close.  After recruiting Canada into the Accord, we were able to
complete the machine before December 14th.  The night before the machine was to be activated,
everyone across the planet both reflected on the past, and contemplated the future.  Even though
we all had our different perspectives on what the machine was going to do, we all knew that the
world would be different after December 14th.  As I stated, what ever was going to happen, was
going to happen, and that despite what happens we must all continue forward.

Now, looking back a year later we must reflect on how far we've come.
The Accord Nations have created a world that many have dreamed about for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.  The accomplishments that we have made would not have been accomplished had we not decided to build the machine.
problems of poverty and inequality.  These were issues of the Old World Order."

Looking back I am also reminded of how life used to be.  One of the artifacts from the old world that I keep with me is this piece of Samarium.  When we were building the machine, it required the use of many Rare Earth Elements such as this.  Luckily we were able to find these elements in the vast uninhabited deserts and dry lands throughout Latin America.  However, this was bad news because we feared it would give the Resistance Nations more of a reason to attack us.  That is why the existence of these elements was kept a secret.  The fact that we were so frightened of being invaded over these elements reminds me of how much the global community was circling the drain, and how we need to avoid going back to the same situation of fearing one another.

While our New World may not be 100% perfect yet, the promise of what the world may be still rings true.  As the communication stated, we have entered into the community of higher beings in the universe.  In time we will learn the full extent of the machine that was given to us, and we will live long and prosper.

One Year Later: LAU

It is truly amazing how quickly time can pass.  Only one year ago did the world as we know it completely change.  With the simple pressing of a button, our world and our future shifted to a course that no one was expecting.  What happened to the citizens of the Resistor countries still remains a question which we may never have the answer to.  Who sent the signal and machine is still a mystery.

But we can look beyond these mysteries, and embrace the future we are creating.  We no longer need to rely dirty and finite oil and coal resources to power earth.  Although we are still figuring out how the machine develops its power, we know that it generates enough power to provide electricity to every corner of the earth.  We've made enormous strides in developing the technology of the future.  Now you can go anywhere, and have connection to the digital world.  Through using the Machine's shield effects, we have developed a way to create safe, clean, transportation.  Politically, without the Resistor nations, tensions among nations have disappeared.  People can sleep at night without the fear of being invaded or attacked by another country.

However, there is still much that needs to be accomplished.  Within Latin America, there still exist problems of poverty and inequality.  These were issues of the Old World Order, not the new one.  The same teams I had set up before we originally received the signal are now working on ways to end these problems, hopefully for good.  Nearly half of the world remains empty.  We need to use these land resources to help fix the problems we are facing.
Our economy remains uncertain.  While we have moved past the issues of the 5 Trillion dollars spent building the machine, our markets are being flooded by rogue and pirated products developed by underground markets.  If we want the future to succeed  we need to put an end to this.  Instead of taking these markets out, we instead need to work with the leaders of the markets, and reach agreements to set limits on the production power of these markets.  They can still exist, but not in the fashion that they exist now.
We must also address our lack of support of Africa.  The citizens of Africa stood behind us throughout the process of building and activating the machine, so now we must give them something in return.  I see no issue in building desalination plants to give to the people of Africa.  It may be easier to simply relocate them to un-populated Resistor nations, but that is not what many people of Africa want.  They take pride in their country and land as much as we do, so simply asking them to pack up their bags and move out it out of the picture.  We have the technology and resources to build these desalination plants, so I see nothing holding us back from doing so.

Lastly, I would like to take this moment to remember all the loved ones we lost during The Severing.  Although we might not have agreed with many of the choices of the Resistor Nations, they were still our fellow human beings.  Family members, relatives, friends.  All simply disappeared with the pressing of a button.  I personally lost contact with many friends after that day.  One year later we still mourn the loss of these relations, but we must build a better future with them in mind.  We know that within the Resistor nations there were individuals that probably supported the building of the machine, so we must remember those individuals by creating the future that they wanted to be a part of.

Hopes and Concerns

Since the machine launch has transformed our world, literally, my world has changed as well. Technology flourished because of this machine, however the aftermath was obviously not what we expected (as if we knew what to expect)? But some parts of the Latin American Union aren't doing as well. The fact that energy is no longer a concern has made my world much less stressful, however there is still the looming concern of what will power our economy. As a scientist, I see it hard for us to continue without this knowledge much longer.

Honestly, there are so many benefits and disadvantages it's hard to keep track of which is which. Like the shield for instance, has been a serious health concern in Canada and it has yet to affect us in the United Stated and South America. Is it only a matter of time for it to catch up to us? This was the one issue I had with going through with the machine; I constantly questioned whether or not it was worth it because of this "shield" the machine came with. Like I said, this has been proven beneficial to people such as myself (my family can now get to work on an invisible field) but posed a huge problem in other parts of the Accord. Regardless, I would rather have everyone safe than even one person being harmed.

Concerning all of this, I am hoping that soon we can move into the unoccupied areas and begin clean up. I hope that we can bring some of the tactics from the REDD project into this "new" land and find some new earth elements that could be beneficial to our new world. I hope to work together with the other Accord countries, especially Japan who is much farther away than the others, to see fit that we continue in this New World Order as a community together, once and for all.

Thank you and best wishes,
Myriam Adela

A New Hope

A New Hope

Though many people on the planet believe that this machine blueprint was sent by an extra-terrestrial phantom menace, which will cause an apocalyptic event, causing the end of our world as we know it, the populace of the Latin American Union believe that this machine symbolizes a “new hope” for our people. So much good has already come from the creation of the Machine Accord, and we have yet to see anything bad. Since the countries of the Accord decided to build the machine in Latin America, our people have been provided with hundreds of thousands of new jobs, livable wages, protection, and safe working environment. Resources have been pouring in from our ally countries, and new scientific developments and research have greatly advanced our nations resources and security. Before the Machine Accord the Latin American Union was crumbling and falling apart. The majority of our people lived in extreme poverty in unlivable conditions. After all the controversy about this machine, our people have felt blessed by our current situation because no matter the outcome, nothing can be as worse as the conditions the majority of our populace were facing before.

Here we go!

This is it! Tomorrow is the day I've been waiting for since I was exposed to this new "machine" and the idea that there might be other life out there. I am extremely excited. Since the beginning of this discovery with 55 Cancri, I have been so sure that this is the right thing to do; they are trying to communicate with us, we should at least meet them halfway, show them we are good enough to be interacted with. I have heard assumptions of "them", whoever this may be, attacking us. I do not believe this to be true; why should we assume such a hurtful intention?

On another note, I'd like to thank my society in the Latin Americas for working so diligently for this to happen. As soon as this project was available and I could get the populace on board, that it would only help our economy.  This has done tremendous things for our technology and science funding, which I commend the executive for making happen. I would also like to thank our military for their undoubted attention to this project; we could not have done this without their strength.

Lastly, I would like to commend Japan and Canada for making this happen. Japan's technology has been crucial to the launch of this machine, and as the Science Adviser, I couldn't be more proud of the success we've seen. Working with such great countries has given me hope that some day, we will all be able to agree on something as important as this.

Let's do this!

Thank you all,
Myriam Adela

The End of the World as We Know It

What does one say on the night before the end of the world as we currently know it?  It is amazing to think that only three months ago, we were going about our daily lives not thinking too much of the unpredictable.  Then, as it always seem to do from time to time, the unpredictable happened.  Only three months ago, but yet it seems like only yesterday.

Not only did the unpredictable catch us off guard, it was enough to divide this planet.  Our nations became torn by the same arguments that have torn us apart a million times before; war, or peace.  So once again we took side with one another, and fought a battle of trade embargos and military hostilities which didn't help anyone.  Although we must congragulate eachoher for keeping within ourselves to not take ivasive military action.  Maybe this is a sign that we can infact put down our weapons when faced with a dispute.

So tomorrow, we must all come together and take what may come.  There are going to be winners, and there are going to be losers.  If it turns out the Resistors were correct in saying these aliens meant harm, then that is what was going to happen all along.  Regardless of what we could have done if these extraterrestrials had it set in their mind to wipe us out, they would have wiped us out.  We've made that point numerous times, as I'm sure you know, so it may be the last time it will be said.

But don't let the bad side of the 50-50 chance be all that occupies your mind.  I didn't decide to build the machine simply out of fear that there was nothing else we could do.  I decided that we should build the machine because I have optimism in what the future may hold.  We have already learned the machine produces some form of self-sustaining energy.  The amount of new technology that we are learning will only boost our booming software and computer industries.  If this machine can infact distort dimensions and space, our knowledge and ability to explore the universe will sky rocket.  We all have all thought about the future, and how amazing it's going to be.  What this machine may be able to do; is make only what we've dreamed about, possible.

Tomorrow, we will all find out if we face our extiction, or go superspeed into the future.  Personally, I'd prefer the latter.

Exectutive of the Latin American Union.
